In preparation for this post I looked up the term bawdy and I think the definition perfectly describes burlesque: “dealing with sexual matters in a comical way; humorously indecent.” Burlesque helps us enjoy sexuality in an open and fearless way. I have attend several events now, and am struck with how it is largely a female-driven form of entertainment. It is boisterous, lively, and fun. Here in Denver this particular event often coincides with April 20 – a day where the legalization of marijuana is celebrated. Often the theme of this show has something to do with the celebration. Performers will work this in to their costumes as well.  I was an audience member and was grateful I could photograph the event. Hopefully the images captured how much naughty fun these events can be.
